I also noticed that Sonic's spin jump frames were not identical when mirrored, so I settled for making the light come from directly above instead for efficiency's sake and to get the same effect of the light not changing depending on Sonic's left or right direction. I then deduced that the enemies and objects had to be using the sprite palette because transparency still counted as a color, so I took the pinks, yellows, cyans, and reds from those and put it all together and then used all of them. How I figured it out was through checking the Master System's graphics specs (this is critical for making sprites faithful to a console's limits after all) and I found that it only had 2 palettes: one for the sprites, and one for the backgrounds. One other thing is that you'll notice that there are a lot more colors being used here, but that's because it turns out that the original was only using 7 of the 15 available colors in the sprite palette used on Sonic 1 SMS.
